The Pulitzer Hotel faces this canal where cars are parked and a narrow
street for driving and a narrow sidewalk (often missing) compete for space.
Bicycles are everywhere and manouver around cars and onto sidewalks at will.

Bicycles are parked everywhere.

Down the street from the hotel is Westerkirk (West Church) across the street from Anne Frank's
house.
|

The keystone above the door was once the method used to identify
a home. Street numbers were not assigned to homes for many years.
|

One of the more elaborate houseboats. The canals are often used to park
boats and barges. From observation, it appears that boats have an assigned space.

People line up to visit Anne Frank's house. I read her unexpurgated diary
a few years ago and was not willing to go through the emotional anguish that a visit
to the house would have triggered.
|

Here you can see sidewalk and street separated by the metal pylons.
|

This house comes to a very acute angle at the corner.
|

This canal has docked boats on only one side.

Note that at the top of every home there is a hook which is used to lift
heavy objects (furniture, pianos, etc.) into the upper floors.
